I have found the solution This should make D3DOverrider work correctly with any game in Windows 8 that it worked with in Windows 7. from: Huggybaby on February 01, 2010, 12:58:34 AM -I use D3D Overrider too. However, this great little tool doesn’t seem to work correctly with games and Windows 8. Try Running D3DOverrider and check that the global option is like this.

This can help eliminate the micro-stuttering that can occur when v-sync is forced on, and still prevents the frame rate from exceeding whatever value you set (and yes, I can tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps, so I use 60 myself). For such games, D3DOverrider, a tool included with RivaTuner, does the trick. On the note of v-sync, if you have an Nvidia card (could have an ATI option too, but it's been a while since I had an ATI card) you can use adaptive v-sync. While forcing v-sync on will protect your video card from having frame rates "run away" and overheat your card, it will not, nor will forcing triple buffering on, alter most causes of short lags/freezes. As the game completes these events in an inefficient manner, even a fast multi-core processor may hiccup when handling them. These are not video card limited events, but "AI" issues and is CPU bound. This commit does not belong to any branch on this repository, and may belong to a fork outside of the repository. Most lags/freezes occur from routing issues and/or event completion (for example, end of school day when all the students get their grades updated, homework becomes available for completion, and they all need to leave to go home or to work or wherever).

I believe there are similar options for ATI cards in the catalyst control suite that comes with ATI drivers, maybe that would work for ATI cards.

D3D OVERRIDER SOFTWARE

I saw this tip on a youtube video and didn't expect it to work, but so far it really seems to.ĭisclaimer: I can't guarantee that this will work for others as I can't figure out why it works for me, also Rivatuner is software designed for NVidia cards and may not work on an ATI card, I can't test that as I don't have one. Leave that running and start up the sims, no more long pauses.

Run D3D overrider and add the sims executable to the list with the plus icon and turn on V-sync and force triple buffering. For NVIDIA users, open up your graphic Control Panel > 3D Settings.

I managed to find a link for a standalone version (if requested I could probably provide a link) the video is not mine but it shows you how to set-up D3D Overrider which basicly. You can get it as part of the rivatuner package (free download) from the rivatuner website: If like me your game has the freezing issue, where sims will get stuck for minutes at a time, some of the animations and sounds will still play but clicking won't do anything.
